Flame n' Aqua Shield Flame n' Aquashield is: - Environmentally friendly - Non toxic - Odorless - Biodegradable Flame n' Aqua Shield retards: - Fire - Water retention - Rot fungi - Lichens - Wood insects Flame n' Aqua Shield is both a fire retardant and a preservative Because of Allwood Ecoseal's close connection to the shake and shingle industry, the main focus of the company was to develop a combination fire retardant/preservative for wood roofing. Until the development of Flame n' Aqua Shield, the treatment choice was a conventional pressure fire retardant... or... a CCA pressure preservative. Flame n' Aqua Shield requires no kilning A disadvantage of the conventional pressure fire retardant is that the wood product must be kiln dried before and after the treatment process. Besides adding to the cost, the dry kilning method shortens the lifespan and causes the wood to become brittle. Flame n' Aqua Shield has passed the modified ASTM E 108-9a test ((806.4" rain plus 60 degree Celsius weathering test which equals 10 to 30 years depending on the rainfall). Many fire retardant/preservatives on the market claim their products have met the 200" rain tests but they state that reapplication must be made after 3 to 4 years. Flame n' Aqua Shield can be applied by pressure impregnation or by the dipped method on unused wood. Flame n' Aqua Shield can also be applied by a spray method to existing wood structures. - CFT Engineering Inc. has recommended the Flame n' Aqua Shield spray method on existing roofs as an equivalency to a Class C fire treatment. Flame n' Aqua Shield reduces smoke by as much as 90%. Smoke inhalation causes more deaths than fire and most damage caused by small fires is smoke related. The first laboratory test that Flame n' Aqua Shield was subjected to and passed was ASTM G53-88 -- meets the requirements of retention of sealant after accelerated aging aging for 500 hours using ultraviolet radiation and 100% humidity cycles. In recent fire tests, performed for Allwood Ecoseal Inc., conventional fire treated #1 perfection shingles were purchased and applied on a test deck for comparison purposes. The deck was then subjected to the same accelerated weathering/rain test decks with Flame n' Aqua Shield treated #1 perfection shingles. Allwood Ecoseal Inc., a research and development company in Surrey, British Columbia has been testing formulation of this enviro-friendly fire retardant/water sealant/preservative since its inception in 1985. |
